Not far down the road from the Bancroft main offices in South Paris, a local group of Mennonites have been busy building a giant barn for the Elk Farm in West Paris.
Over the course of 3 days, Ryan Howe and Robert Sicotte were able to assist this group of builders with setting the trusses in place. While Robert rigged the trusses, Ryan hoisted them into place. In total, the structure took 82 trusses over the center section that was 80’ wide.
Due to the width of the trusses for this section, each truss was delivered to the Mennonite crew in two pieces before being joined together, rigged, then hoisted.
To be able to place the trusses without interfering with the overhang on each side of the center structure, the 110-ton Link Belt crane was moved several time to ensure the proper reach. This meant the crane would find itself inside the structure in order to pull this off!
The placement of the trusses went very smoothly and only needed 3 days for placement due to inclement weather on one of the days that put a halt to the hoists.
When this structure is completed, it’ll measure out to 152’ x 224’ — now that’s a big ‘ol barn!
Be sure to check out the awesome pictures of Ryan and Robert making the work happen!
