At the tail end of ski season, the Unit Owners Association for the Sugartree II condominiums began to seek out bidders for a decent size commercial concrete and decking project. Hot on the trail to secure the work was none other than Bancroft’s own Commercial Division Manager, Tom Norton, who won the bid and has his crew working steadily through the summer.
Tom reports —
We have made good progress so far. Adam Herrick and his crew made their first concrete placement using our pump truck and will be soon placing the exterior footing for the new wall.
In preparation for the concrete placement, the crew worked on tying rebar for the wall and erecting forms around that rebar for a 40’ wide, 14’ tall, 1’ thick section. Once the forms and rebar were all in place, they started the process all over again on the footing that is 36’ long, 6’ wide, 1’ thick. With both of those sections formed, approximately 40-cubic-yards was then brought in and placed. Once fully cured, the new wall and footer will serve to reinforce an existing foundation wall.
Away from the forms and rebar, Tom is also singing his praises for Danny Coffin and his crew —
They work hard and smart in the parking garage, so more rebar and forms can be set for extension footers.
Additionally, they have also been working on shoring the existing structural assembly. This consists of jacking up specific existing beams and installing temporary supports, so they can later install column splices to each column — so far, 16 columns have been identified as needing this, but there could be more.
Overall, both of these crews are adding a tremendous amount of structural support which is ensuring the longevity of these condos. In the near future, the crews will turn their attention to the decks of each unit to get those replaced and add another level of enjoyment for the condos’ inhabitants.

It’s been just over a month since we last checked in with the Commercial Crew at the Sugartree II Condos, who were knee-deep in concrete placements. While the placements have stayed consistent, the crew has not — they’ve turned things up into the next gear and, much to Project Manager Tom Norton’s delight, are now flying through the scope of work!
After we reported on the first concrete placement for the foundation, the guys have made a handful more, utilizing newly minted Pump Truck Operator Tyler Sterry on a near weekly basis. With that constant flow of concrete has come the completion of the outside foundation, which opens the window for E.L. Vining to start backfilling. Pretty slick work fellas!
Away from the foundation wall, more concrete was placed in the form of 4 piers and 4 columns in the parking garage beneath the condos. With a little help from turnbuckles to plumb the Symons steel-ply forms and rebar for extra strength in the concrete, the piers set quickly. The replacement of these will help to provide structural integrity for the above foundation for a long time to come (see the pictures to the right on how these forms and rebar were setup and placed).
Six additional columns will be added this coming week, at which point the subcontracted spray foam insulators will take care of business around the columns and sewer drain. Another modification in the parking garage is a new access elevator door frame, soon followed by two more doors — one for the electrical room and another for the boiler room.
The whole crew has been busting their way through the work and it’s been nothing less than impressive to see the transformation of this site. A special mention from Tom Norton goes to Dennis “Shorty” Tripp for “an amazing job last week blocking in the opening for us.”

It’s no secret to employees of Bancroft Contracting that it takes patience and skill to craft something worth standing next to when everything is done. In the case of the Sugartree Condos renovation, Tom Norton and his crew can certainly stand next to their work.
With multiple projects happening above and below, inside and outside, this was a tricky project to coordinate the structural rehab. Combine that with completing everything on time and UNDER budget — go ahead and brush your shoulders guys!
Even Tom Norton was impressed and had the following to share about the guys:
I would like to give a big thank you to Adam [Herrick] and Danny [Coffin] for guiding their crew over the summer.
Thank you also goes to staple crew members Dalton Robinson and Morgan Gammon, the pinch helpers of “Shorty” [Dennis Tripp], Bob Morraisey, and Dave Stanley, newly minted pump truck operator Tyler Sterry, and summer helpers Anders Sailer, Nick Bancroft.
Check out a bunch of pictures on the next fold to see how the project turned out in the garage and decking areas.
